Number One
Below are listed the number one ranked submission competitors nationally. But more important than just being a number, being ranked means something emotional and tangible to those who achieve any kind of recognition - be it number one or number 50. Here's what some of the top-ranked competitors have to say about making the list.
Michael "Smoothie" Trasso
"I loved grappling since my dad enrolled me in jiu-jitsu at five years old. I've been training for 7-1/2 years and each minute is more enjoyable. Grappling/jiu-jitsu is great for me because I can defend myself and enter tournaments throughout the year. My instructor Jerry Jones makes learning fun. They call me "Smoothie" because I move so fluid. Grappling is a great way to put your skills to the test and keeps your body in good condition. It is a great feeling to be ranked #1. I have trained and worked very hard and it's pretty cool to be recognized for my achievements. I guess the saying "practice makes perfect" is true. My dad always tells me "perfect practice makes perfect". Either way is true. Being ranked #1 also boosts my confidence. I know I can defend myself anytime I need to. I have my own dojo for training in my backyard! I hope to be an instructor some day with my own school and compete in Pride or UFC."
